Update your actor headshots when they no longer represent how you look today or the roles you are pursuing. There is no single deadline that fits every actor: compare your current photos with your everyday appearance and review them with your representative before booking a new session.

Has your appearance changed?

A lasting change in haircut, hair color, facial hair, or overall appearance can make an older photo less useful. Your headshot should help someone recognize you when you arrive or appear on a self-tape. A birthday alone is not a reason to replace a photo that still looks like you.

For children and teens, check more frequently as their appearance changes. Start with a recent, unfiltered photo beside the current headshot and look for meaningful differences.

Do your photos reflect the roles you want?

Review the expressions, wardrobe, and tone of your current selection. You may have a strong commercial image but no theatrical option, or several photos that all communicate the same thing. Talk with your agent or manager about the specific gap before planning new looks.

A quiet audition period does not automatically mean your photos are the problem. Submissions, experience, availability, and the roles being cast also matter. Look for clear feedback rather than assuming a new session will produce bookings.

Are the images still usable?

Check your headshots at the small size used on your submission profiles. Can you see your face clearly? Does the crop work? Is the retouching natural? If the original files are strong, a different selection or crop may solve the problem without a full reshoot.
