The Creative Scene
As an actor, it’s important to understand ALL facets of filmmaking and production – not only because it gives you a deeper appreciation and grip of all the work that goes into your craft, but it also helps you expand your creative horizons. Broadening your knowledge makes networking infinitely easier when you know what you’re talking about, and it connects you with likeminded people in the industry.
If your’e an actor and have always been interested in the writing process, it would be a fantastic stride in your creative career to try a writing class, partner up with someone and create original content, or network with some writers and pick their brain. The same goes for those of you who are interested in delving into directing or expanding their knowledge of the cinematography aspect of filmmaking. It’s all about recalibrating yourself within the creative scene and expanding your creative reach. All of this can immensely help you grow as an actor. By getting involved more in the writing or directing or development spectrums of this industry, you’re giving yourself an opportunity to learn about different facets of YOUR job (acting) and how all these crafts are connected. Ultimately, we all come together to create ONE product, so we’re all connected. Get in tune with that concept. Embrace it. Use it to your advantage. Take a new class, make a point to see more stand-up comedy shows, look into improv, watch a documentary on filmmaking or photography. Study. Explore. Give yourself a wider view of how other creatives approach their craft – it’ll absolutely help you better understand your own.
