Yes, acting is all about talking and conveying authentic emotional. But don’t let talking overshadow all your other communication tools that may be more powerful.

As actors, when you focus too much on your lines and harp over them (almost to the point where they start to lose meaning…) they become JUST THAT: lines. The authenticity is lost. You know we’re big on authenticity here at Michael Roud Photography; we always talk about authenticity when it comes to headshots. Conveying emotional that looks and feels real.

It sounds like overstating the obvious, but the same applies to acting – don’t forget! Being a good actor is not just about verbal communication. You have to master the nonverbal and use what you’ve got! Our friends at Backstage came up with a list of 9 Acting Tools You Already Possess. One of our favorite points that echoes everything we discuss with our clients:

“Your energy and eyes. Energy rules! Try to let your energy go through your whole body. I tell my students to act with their whole souls. Practice with energy. Work your energy like a laser beam. Or try filling an entire room with your energy, and remember that the eyes are the windows of the soul. Energy and eyes will make you a star.”

Read it, learn it, use it, live it. It only gets better from here!
