THINGS YOU SHOULDN’T SAY OR DO DURING AN AUDITION
Auditions can be nerve wracking. You may have practiced a million times and nailed every part, but as soon as you walk in to that audition room the nerves hit you. No matter how nervous you get do not say or do any of the following things.
1. Don’t pull a weapon. Real or fake. It scares people. It is definitely an audition killer.
2. Don’t chew gum. Unless the role calls for it, spit it out.
3. Don’t say, “Should I sit or stand?”. You decide. Pick the position in which you are the most comfortable.
4. Don’t say, “If I suck, just tell me and I’ll do it again.” Be confident. Believe in your own abilities. Saying this sets you up for failure.
5. Don’t throw your keys and phone and sunglasses on the casting director’s table or desk. This could be considered rude. It’s better not to invade personal space.
6. Don’t ask to start again when you’re almost at the end of the scene. Nobody cares about one small mistake. If they think it’s absolutely necessary they will ask you to do it again. Just power through it and you will do great.
7. Dont say, “I just said that out loud for the first time.” Seriously? You need to practice your audition before you arrive. Perform in front of a friend or family member, even your dog would work! Practice makes perfect. It will make you more prepared for the audition and you will perform better.
If you avoid doing these things you will maximize your chances of getting the part. Go out there and get the part. Break a leg!
