You took our advice… You got killer new headshots with us, have been working steadily, training like a madman, and now finally have the agent/manager meeting of your dreams! But now what?…

Well you aren’t the first person to come to us wondering what in the world to do now that you have a meeting scheduled with potential representation. First off, congratulations! And second, let’s get prepped because the work doesn’t end here.

Before your appointment, make sure that you have researched who you are meeting with. Beyond Google, sign up for an IMDb Pro account to have access to the Rep’s client list. Seeing what level of talent he/she represents will tell you oodles about whether or not they’re a good fit for you. You may not want a giant agency chock full of celebs where you’ll get lost in the shuffle, but you also don’t want to be a big fish in a small pond. No one grows that way.

Next, brush up your interviewing skills. How? Well, think about what you did this weekend or what you want to do next weekend. That’s right. Be a human with interests and passions outside of the biz because this meeting is to get to know YOU! So be ready to talk and listen and enjoy meeting someone new.

With that said, you’ll also need to be prepared to talk shop. Think about possible answers to questions like:

What type of roles do you most easily see yourself in? (Be realistic and specific!)
Where do you want to be in 3-5 years? What kind of career do you want?
What are your biggest strengths and weaknesses?

Get your best, (not overly formal, but more upscale casual/relaxed professional) looking clothes ready. Buts out the iron for that outfit that you feel fab in! And make sure what you wear reflects your particular type and marketability.

Finally, plan something special to do after your meeting. It could be a picnic with a friend, or a splurge on a $6 mocha. Just have something to go to so you aren’t lingering at the door when your meeting is wrapping up. You are a busy bee with places to be and this is just the first of MANY meetings coming your way!

So do your prep work, and then simply enjoy meeting your potential new team member. Regardless of the outcome, you’ll have a mini celebration waiting for you when it’s done. And know (with $6 Mochas in hands), we at Michael Roud are toasting you too!

Break legs!
