At graduation parties across the country young people are forced into awkward conversations about their future plans with their classmate’s parents, neighbors, family members they haven’t seen in years and even people they’ve never met before. Nothing will take the energy out of you like being asked “What are you going to do after graduation?” fifty times within an hour. For those of you brave enough to chase your dreams, here’s a quick rundown on how to convince your parents/anyone you might run into at a graduation party that you moving to LA is a great idea.

Do talk about the beautiful weather. (They’ll want to visit)

Don’t talk about partying at the Playboy mansion.

Do talk about all the career opportunities. (Tons of networking!)

Don’t move without researching career opportunities first.

Do talk about your plan to save money before you move.

Don’t talk about all the places you plan on shopping in LA. (Unless your parents support your shopping addiction, then they’ll be thrilled)

Do make a Powerpoint presentation of all the ways your life would improve by relocating.

Don’t make a Powerpoint presentation of fallen child stars.

Do talk about In-N-Out Burger. (Everyone from outside California will be intrigued.)

Don’t talk about flipping burgers. (People will think this is what you have planned for after graduation.)

Do let them know how serious you are.

Don’t
be discouraged.
