If you’re feeling like you’re stuck and not getting anywhere in your career, the first thing to do is take a deep breath. Know that this is something that everyone experiences at one point or another, and it’s all part of the process. The ebb and flow of the actors life is certainly challenging to get used to, and sometimes the ebb lasts a little longer than we’d like – but ultimately, the power lies within YOU to get yourself unstuck. After you’ve taken the deep breath, it’s best to accept that there will be a period of deep planning, strategizing, and shifting gears. Getting your groove back is all about getting back into the correct mindset. There are some outstanding resources out there to help you move along your trajectory.

First, set some goals so you are clear about the direction in which you are heading. Start off with TWO goals:

  • Set a short-term goal (three-six months). Choose something that is very achievable within a short time frame. Then, break down the weekly or daily tasks you must do to guarantee that goal gets met.

  • Set a long term goal (one year). Sit down and get clear about where you want to be in one year. You need to take some time alone with no distractions to get clear about what you really want. Don’t work hard going after something that isn’t really wonderful.
