Before An Audition (pt. 2)
After yesterday, you know what NOT to do before a big audition… So now let’s talk about what in the world TO DO with those nervous moments before you enter the room!
The minute you open the door, your audition begins. The way you walk into the room and greet the casting directors are all being taken in. So it is your job to prepare before you even enter, not just before you begin the sides.
If you catch yourself having negative, self sabotaging thoughts – Try reversing them. It’s funny, but the more wild the reverse, the more fun it can be to play with. Here’s an example. My negative thought could be, the girl who is gonna go in before me is so much skinnier than me. I’m too fat to book this part. My reverse could be, I’m so perfectly suited for this role. I bet this character has a cute butt just like mine. My body’s too bootylicious for ya babe… So ridiculous and fun, you’ll have a good time putting your focus towards specific and positive affirmations like these. And believe it or not, you say something enough, I think it starts to feel/become the truth!
What else can you do? Focus your mind on thinking character specific thoughts. Sit, drink water, apply chapstick, read a book, all as your character would do! It will spring board you into the sides like nothing else. You can even think about what happened to you (as the character) in the moment before your sides began. What was he/she doing and thinking? You can think the same thing!
Now that you have a few options of how to use that precious time in the waiting room before an audition, let us know how it makes a difference in your audition experience. Don’t forget us when you are bombarded by bookings!
Break legs friends!
