This week’s MRP Spotlight is on multitalented actor, Andrew Lipson!

You may recognize Andrew from comedy series “20-Something” or hilarious series “Awful Terrible Lizards” – and he is currently working on a fun new web series called “Tinder Bender“. He was cast as the male lead for the project and they are about to wrap production on the pilot episode. In the pilot, Andrew’s character, Charlie, unwittingly goes on a date with 3 different girls who just so happen to be best friends. Clearly a tough day in the office! “Tinder Bender” was created by a group of vibrant young ladies – the minds behind IIISome Productions. He also recently wrapped the feature film called “Scarefest” (trailer coming soon). A brilliant blend of the found-footage and slasher style horror genres.

Andrew is a true New Yorker, and his roots have uniquely impacted his journey as an actor in many ways. “Growing up in Brooklyn is something that’s influenced me greatly over the years. Being able to identify with this city as home, which can be so difficult for many, is something that’s ingrained in me and has shaped the person I’ve become. Be it the variety of culture, the access to pretty much any expression of art you desire, the food, the food, oh… and the food, this city is one in a million,” says Lipson. A lot of people move to New York and LA with high ambition, and he has had first hand experience with this as a New York native.

“Young actors who move to NY with nothing but a dream and a few bucks in their wallet can easily be distracted, intimidated, and worn out by this city. We all succumb to New York’s ‘grind’ every once in a while. By having family here, a lifetime of friends, and knowing the city’s ins and outs the way I do, it allows me to stay the course and persevere through all the unknowns.”

People seem to be most surprised about the combination of Andrew’s ethnic backgrounds; his mother grew up in Guatemala, which has been a huge influence in his life. He’s gone to visit over 20 times, and he and his family run a nonprofit medical mission that does work there every year or so. (Guatemalahands.org for all details!). His maternal grandfather was Egyptian; though when he tried to come to the states, Ellis Island sent him to Cuba, then eventually Guatemala. On top of all of this, Andrew is Jewish on both sides! As he puts it, “In summation, I’m a Middle Eastern, Guatemalan Jew who grew up in Brooklyn.” – in case you were wondering where he gets his good looks.
