ADVENTURES IN SEARCHING FOR THE PERFECT HEADSHOTS
I have headshots from about 10 different photographers, 9 of which I hate. I know you know what I mean. It is an all too common complaint among actors. The search for the perfect headshot is an epic adventure with many pitfalls along the way. Finally, finally, I have shots I love!
Michael took the time to help me focus in on the type of character specific looks that would actually get me work. He had me pull photos of the actresses that were my type off the internet that I really love to inspire our shoot. We went through my clothes and chose the outfits that both looked best on camera and showed the characters we were aiming for. Next, my hair and makeup were styled so that I looked like me, but on a perfectly fabulous day.
For me, we decided to shoot 4 looks:
1. The fresh, all American, girl next door. Think anything with Brittany Snow or even Kaley Cuoco from “The Big Bang Theory.”
1. The quirky, peppy girl. See any romantic comedy or whimsical indie for an example. Think a young Meg Ryan or blonde Zooey Deschanel.
2 The young professional. Both for commercials and TV. Think Mamie Gummer in “The Good Wife” or Alison Pill in “The Newsroom.”
3. The young, preppy wife. Maybe she’s a bit too innocent and trusting, or maybe she actually has a secret. Think Taylor Schilling as Piper in “Orange Is The New Black” or Betty Draper on “Mad Men.”
Then we did a latte run across the street, put on my favorite sound track, and got to playing. The photos speak for themselves, take a look! My reps love the shots as much I do. They’ve given my submissions the boost they needed and now they’re helping me get the auditions I am perfect for. Now the only thing left to do is to figure out how to use all those old headshots for something. Coaster, anyone?
